MIA Art Collection announces the art exhibition LAVINIA, under the auspices of the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi and in collaboration with DIFC Dubai, open to the public from March 1st to March 30th at The Gate at DIFC – West Lobby.
The exhibition, curated by an international team led by Alejandra Castro Rioseco with special co-curator Matteo Sormani, presents a captivating ensemble of female artistic voices, transporting the audience to the Baroque period of 16th-century in Italy (or late Mannerism), with works exclusively by women artists.
The exhibition is inspired by a unique work by the famous and iconic artist Lavinia Fontana, one of the most renowned women artists in history who produced over 125 artworks, of which only 34 have been recovered with her original signature. The selected artwork by the iconic artist will inspire and guide the curatorial red thread, inviting four Italian contemporary women artists to exhibit works to the same theme and technique, oil-based paintings, offering a new perspective on the Baroque era.
