NAAS She Reel – Women in Society at Manarat Al Saadiyat

We are excited to announce the second edition of the film programming NAAS “She Reel, Women in Society”, a collaboration of UAE cultural institutions including the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region, the Embassies of France, Canada, Switzerland and Austria, as well as the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi, at Manarat Al Saadiyat in partnership with Manarat Al Saadiyat, proudly presents a film series dedicated to women’s equality. By screening movies that depict diverse perspectives and challenges faced by women globally, the project aims to provoke thought, inspire discussion, and promote awareness of gender inequality issues. Through storytelling and cinematic artistry, it seeks to foster understanding and solidarity in the pursuit of a more equitable world for women. NAAS starts on January 08 and runs bi-weekly until June 2025 at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi. All film screenings will be announced via social media.

Primadonna tells the story of Lia, a young woman who stands up against the violent and oppressive social norms of her time. Inspired by the true story of Franca Viola, a Sicilian girl who in 1965 was the first Italian woman to refuse a “shotgun” wedding after being abducted, Lia’s courage in the film symbolizes a groundbreaking fight for women’s rights.

Misogyny in the Digital Age is a powerful documentary exploring the devastating impact of online violence through the stories of four women and one man, including harassed politicians, a targeted YouTuber, a persecuted teacher, and a grieving father.
