Ten years after its debut, La traviata returns to the stage in the celebrated production conceived by Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti and produced by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Directed by Sofia Coppola in her operatic debut, Verdi’s masterpiece will be broadcast live from the heart of Rome on Tuesday, 30 June, on a giant screen in Piazza di Spagna.

Thanks to a collaboration between our Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, on 3 July at 5:30pm GST we will present, at our premises, a delayed live  screening of Giuseppe Verdi’s La traviata. Exceptionally, audiences in the UAE will have the opportunity to experience the opera as staged in Piazza di Spagna, transformed for one evening into an open-air theatre and to admire the magnificent costumes designed by Valentino.

The project is part of the programme of the Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Foundation, whose mission places the support and promotion of the arts at the heart of cultural and social development. Costumes for all the characters in the opera are designed by Valentino.

The Orchestra of the Rome Opera will be conducted by Francesco Ivan Ciampa. In the role of Violetta, Ermonela Jaho will bid farewell to one of the defining roles of her career, which she has performed in more than 300 performances, on 30 June at the Teatro Costanzi. Alongside her, Dmitry Korchak will appear as Alfredo and Amartuvshin Enkhbat as Giorgio Germont. The cast also features young artists from the Rome Opera’s “Fabbrica” Young Artist Program, together with other performers from the theatre, while the Chorus is conducted by Ciro Visco.

The event is free of charge. RSVP is required.
